Music: Alter Egos between Projection and Presentation

To mark the upcoming tenth anniversary of the death of Jörg Schlick ( 1951–2005 ) Künstlerhaus focuses on his overwhelming amount of work. Schlick was one of the most prolific Styrian artists of international standing. He was an author, conceptual artist, musician, painter, short-film director, video and performance artist, ballet choreographer, and set designer. He engaged in his intelligent play with all forms of artistic expression with the media resources available to him at the time and a marked creative instinct for potentials of appropriation and controversies.
This broad, extensive and retrospective show sets out to concentrate samples of all phases of Schlick’s multimedia work and to examine the legend and oeuvre of this indomitable conceptual artist from the perspective of current artistic questions. In addition, the retrospective draws on a plethora of works that were for a long time inaccessible and is accompanied by a comprehensive publication containing the first catalogue of the artist’s works. As part of the accompanying programme of events, not only will companions and contemporaries be speaking, but members of the younger generation will also reflect on the life and work of Jörg Schlick.
