The successful Danish pop experiment Efterklang has reinvented itself and is now called Liima. With a new name and a new member, Finnish percussionist Tatu Rönkkö, the quartet pulls off a coup, not picking up on their own legacy, but – following world tours and orchestra collaborations – returning to free form – improvisation and flirtations with the repetitive patterns of minimal music defining their sound. But the four Scandinavians don’t want to do without grand gestures altogether, evoking memories of Kraftwerk, Brian Eno or Talking Heads, i.e. of pop with intellect.
